Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday stated that while social media reels grab everyone's attention these days, there are some who still adore reading books.
Delivering the inaugural address of the 29th edition of the Delhi Book Fair at Bharat Mandapam here, she emphasized that her government will keep favoring literary events that are in the interest of publishers and readers.
"Books are friends that remain with you for good. Even in the current times, when social media reels rule, there are individuals who love books," Gupta informed the audience.
"In Bharat, reading and writing culture dates back ages. A good book invites us into its world. We lose ourselves in its characters and learn from them," she said.
"We will continue to favour such book fairs which benefit publishers and individuals involved in the event," she said.
The CM also felicitated Delhi Culture Minister Kapil Mishra and his team for successfully holding the fair, which will continue until August 10.
After the inauguration, Gupta and Mishra toured a few stalls of the fair, mingled with publishers and browsed books and stationery.
The Delhi Book Fair has a vast range of exhibitors, ranging from leading publishing groups, schools and cultural organizations. The fair will draw hundreds of book enthusiasts from all over Delhi.
